Tyler grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and started to play Ultimate as a freshman at Jacobs High School. After two state championships the last two years of high school, he continued his career into college at the University of Iowa playing for their club team, IHUC. Tyler captained them for 3 years during his time there from 2015 - 2021 and was named to second team all-region twice. He also played club throughout college for the Chicago based team Beachfront Property along with Iowa club teams Cryptic and Illusion.
