Matthew Goetsch was born in Hayward, Wisconsin and raised in West Chicago, Illinois where he attended high school and played football and basketball at St. Charles East High School, adding ultimate in the spring of his senior year. He played YCC the following summer of 2018 before attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and played ultimate all four years, captaining in his junior and senior years. He played club ultimate for MKE and Northern Comfort in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before joining the Union in 2023.
