The Sol are excited to announce Steven Naji as head coach for 2020. Steven comes with a wealth of AUDL experience, having played three years with the Indianapolis AlleyCats before moving to Texas and playing for the Sol. Naji started playing in college at Missouri S&T from 2006-2011 before moving on to local club teams and then the pro level. In addition to playing, Naji coached the Indiana University women's team for three years, founded and captained the Austin team Gaucho and gives back to the community by running tournaments in Austin and is a board member for the local Austin ultimate nonprofit. "We're thrilled to have Naji - he brings so much energy and commitment to the team. Naji lives ultimate and has become a fixture in the Austin community after only a few short years," praises Sol founder Patrick Christmas.
Steven shares, "I've followed and been apart of the American Ultimate Disc League since it's inception in 2011. It's been incredible to watch how much the talent and athleticism have grown across the board in this league. The AUDL has evolved so much and the gap between our top teams and bottom teams is closer and closer every year. There are zero easy days in the AUDL, and I've learned to not take anything for granted simply because one club scene is better or worse than others. Austin and it's surrounding areas have a strong history of success in the ultimate world. While the Sol haven't yet reached the benchmarks Austin is accustomed to, I'm elated at the opportunity to lead our franchise and city back towards championship contention. This city has a tremendous talent pool and and I fully believe we have the personnel to compete for an AUDL title. The Austin Sol have been a role model franchise since joining the league in 2016, and I couldn't be more honored to take the helm moving forward."
